Well done MS, now do it again
I hope MS Dhoni is learning a lesson from the little demonstration that he has put on today: he invariably bats better when he bats aggressively. He will always be an unattractive batsman (though his hooking is a real throwback with its off-the-eyebrows emphasis) but he is capable of scoring runs when he allows himself the freedom of the lashing stroke.

Dhoni could probably use that ride in a Su-30 right about now. This series has already acquired the morbidly fascinating quality of a really bloody road smash-up: as if a truck plowed into eleven bicycles, turned around, came back, and did it twice more. (With a fourth pass very likely.)
The language of "pass" is evocative of aircraft coming in for a strafing run.
But all said and done, this tour needs to end, and soon.
Yes, if our super(bats)men fail again it'll be an innings defeat. At this rate Eng are going to score 550 and declare and let their bowlers loose on these supermen knowing they'll choke before nearing 300. But one's got to keep the faith. And I do.
We so rarely get 4-Test series anymore. What a pity they made such an embarrassing hash of it. Shades of 1974 (the 'summer of 42'), except that back then there were consequences: supporters were outraged, Wadekar lost the captaincy and even his place in the team. This time the response will be to shrug and look ahead to the next IPL. (In 1974, there were also rocks thrown at players' houses, which is entirely out of order. But perhaps an egg-seller could set up shop across the street from the BCCI headquarters.)
"But one's got to keep the faith. And I do." - I don't anymore. Innings defeat it'll be.
LACC: It certainly does look that way. A second innings of 500 is the minimum India requires and that does look very unlikely.
Satadru: I'm just really disappointed that I had all this time to watch four tests at good times on the East Coast and they have turned into this dud-fest!
